Recall Up Date: 2013 Ford Escape & Fusion

Ford’s recall-prone 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine is once again causing problems for Dearborn, with almost 90,000 Escape and Fusion models equipped with the engine subject to the latest voluntary recall. Escapes equipped with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost have already been subject to three recalls since its introduction, including for fuel leaks and engine fires.

The latest recall concerns engine overheating, with warning messages appearing in the vehicle information display, and some reports of engine fires. Ford is urging owners of the affected models to contact their dealer immediately. Ford will cover costs related to overheating-related transportation.

Approximately 73,320 Escape and 15,833 Fusions are affected by the recall. Affected vehicles can be identified by an “X” in the eighth character of the vehicle identification number in Escape models, and an “R” in Fusion models. U.S. customers are urged to call 866-436-7332, and Canadian customers to call 888-222-7814. Owners can also log in to Ford.com, click on the “Support” tab, select “View Notices and Recalls” and input their vehicle’s VIN number to see if it is subject to the recall.

As with the prior three recalls, only vehicles equipped with the 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine are affected. 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter models are not affected.
