Spied: 2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante

Here's the proof that Aston Martin is working on a convertible version of the Vanquish, possibly set to be badged Vanquish Volante.

These blurry pictures reveal the newcomer will get a fabric soft-top, just like the convertible variants of the DB9 and Vantage.

The Vanquish has carbon-fibre body panels and features a chassis constructed with a combination of aluminium and carbon fibre. That makes it ultra-stiff and should reduce the amount of strengthening – and weight – Aston will have to add to accommodate the soft-top.

Underneath the bonnet will be the same 565bhp 6.0-litre V12 engine as the hard-top. Combined with a six-speed ZF gearbox the convertible Vanquish is likely to accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds – just a tenth slower than the coupe.

Other than the fabric roof, this prototype doesn’t reveal any other cosmetic changes, but the Vanquish’s sleek rear spoiler is hidden away underneath some plastic cladding.

Aston Martin may unveil the new Vanquish Volante next year as part of its centenary celebrations. Prices haven’t been confirmed but expect to pay a hefty premium over the Vanquish coupe's £189,995 price tag. For more details click here.
