Verano, Cruze, and Sonic models may exhibit a condition where a shorting bar within the driver’s front airbag may occasionally contact terminals used to deploy the primary airbag stage. If so, the airbag warning light will illuminate; if the vehicle is then involved in a frontal collision, the primary airbag stage will not deploy.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the steering wheel airbag coil, effectively preventing any unwanted contact between the shorting bar and airbag terminals.
Vehicles Affected: GM says the recall involves roughly 2949 cars, although it does not split that total into precise figures for the Sonic, Verano, and Cruze model lines.
