Hot News: Chevrolet Spark EV to be Introduced at LA Show

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette muscle car may be debuting in Detroit this January, but the Los Angeles auto show will host a new Chevrolet that’s far more efficient: the Spark EV. In Los Angeles at the end of this month, the Chevrolet Spark EV will debut along with the latest version of MyLink, shown first in a 2014 Chevrolet Impala.

Acting as a halo car for the subcompact Chevrolet Spark, the Spark EV will launch in 2013, joining a growing field of fully electric minicars. The Smart Fortwo Electric Drive is on the way, as is the ultra-low-volume Scion iQ EV. In Los Angeles, we expect the Spark EV will be joined by the new Fiat 500e electric car.
The Chevrolet Spark EV will most likely have an EPA-rated range of under 100 miles. The range may not be as high as other EVs like the Nissan Leaf, but the Chevrolet probably won’t be as expensive. It’s unclear at this point whether the Spark EV will be a lease- and fleet-only car, a possibility considering an Opel executive recently said that an EV version of a subcompact would raise the price point to a level beyond what customers would be willing to pay.

Also on display at the Los Angeles auto show will be the 2014 Chevrolet Impala and the newest version of MyLink. Chevrolet says the newer technology allows for added personalization as well as easier smartphone integration.
