The Problem: Mis-positioned carpet padding could be pushed outboard of its proper position, forcing the driver’s foot to contact the side of the brake pedal when transferring from the throttle pedal to the brake. The compromised function of the pedal controls could potentially increase stopping distances and the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Ford will contact affected owners and remove and replace the faulty carpet padding and left-side console trim panel. Owners can contact Ford at 866-436-7332, recall campaign # 12S34, or call NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 888-327-4236.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 8266 2013 Ford Escape models built from March 8, 2012 to June 7, 2012.
