Recall Up Date: 2001-2006, 2008 Mazda Tribute

The Problem: Certain Tribute crossovers equipped with the 3.0-liter V-6 may have an unintended accelerate problem. Inadequate clearance between the speed control cable connector (generally used for the cruise control) and the engine cover could lead to a stuck throttle when the accelerator has been fully or mostly depressed. Although the speed control cable connector is involved with the cruise control, the stuck throttle can occur no matter if the cruise control is turned on. Ford recalled 423,634 Escapes – the Tribute’s mechanical twin – for the same problem last week.

The Fix: Starting August 6, Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will increase engine cover clearance at no charge. However, replacement parts will not be available until mid-August – if they aren’t available, the dealer will disconnect the speed control cable in the interim until the parts come in. Customers can contact Mazda regarding recall 6812G at 1-800-222-5500, option number 6.

Number of Vehicles Affected: 217,500 2001-2006 and 2008 Mazda Tributes.
